Many of you have reached out to offer support after the devastating loss of all our honeybee colonies over winter 2022. Your kindness and interest in the bees is hugely appreciated.
A few of you asked about a Gofundme campaign but to be honest, the thought of setting that up stresses me out. If you'd still like to help but don't want/need honey, my address is curtis@clevernet.net for etransfers. Huge thanks to those who have reached out. To help offset the costs of buying nucs and rebuilding the apiary, I'm offering limited pre-sales of honey that will harvested from the new colonies. Things to be aware of, if pre-paying.. this is for family/friends/supporters who understand this is a bit like investing in crypto.. but tastier and way more environmentally friendly. Although I expect to be harvesting honey from the new hives in Summer/Fall 2023, there is NO guarantee the new colonies will be successful - I can only promise I will do my utmost to help the ladies (and the few gents) grow, survive and thrive. If you're cool with that, the bees and I will do our best. For those of you who live further away, I don't mind shipping but be aware it's currently about $20 to ship one or two bottles within the province. What you are helping with: I hope to buy six nucs this spring. Nucs (starter colonies, usually 4-5 frames of bees with mated queen) $230-250 each Other costs: Formic Pro (mite treatment) Sugar (Fall Feed) Veterinary prescriptions Oxytet (for preventing AFB) Bottles Equipment & Upkeep/Maintenance (winter wraps/tools/clothes/hive repairs/extractor/honey storage/epipens/label printing) Beekeeper Memberships Sanity (Kidding... the bees actually keep me calm) For more info on our winter losses: http://www.1000islandshoney.ca/blog |
